ne of the most important things you can do to ensure the freshness of your coffee is clean your grinder every so often. Doing this will remove remnants of old stale coffee, and as an added bonus, can even speed up grinding time. In this blog entry, we will talk about how to take apart and clean the burrs and chute on the Eureka Mignon Specialita.

Cleaning the Burrs

Eureka designed the Mignon line to be easy to take apart. First, be sure to turn off and unplug your grinder! Now. simply pull off the Eureka emblem on the back, and unscrew the long phillips screw. Next, unhinge the top lid, and pull it up and off the housing. Now the burrs are exposed. Unscrew the top burr from the housing, and clean thoroughly with a brush. A small vacuum or Giotto air cleaner works well, too. Then, clean the bottom burr. This can be removed for more thorough cleaning using a thick, flat bladed screwdriver.

  • Phillips screwdriver

  • Flat bladed screwdriver

  • Small stiff brush, Giotto, or vacuum

Cleaning the Chute

Cleaning the chute is quite easy as well, especially if the top lid is already removed. In this case, just remove the top 2 screws holding the display onto the housing, as well as the screw holding the “nose” against which the portafilter abuts. Then, one can slide the whole display unit up and away from the housing, and pull it to the side. Then, gently pull the rubber up and away from the chute, to expose the clear plastic chute to view. Finally, remove the little jagged piece of metal attached with a screw to the exit chamber, which is the declumper. Here is a video showing the process.
